The proposed safeguards rule from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)was published in the Federal Register this morning. Comments are due to the FTC by June 3, 2019. AFSA plans to comment.

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) rejected yesterday a proposal brought by several financial institutions and trade associations, including AFSA. The proposal would have softened the impact of a change that will force banks to book losses much faster.

AFSA's April State Government Affairs white paper is now available. This month's white paper covers the state response to the recent federal government shutdown. While the federal government was partially shutdown for a record 35 days, several states pushed for legislation to temporarily put hold on certain credit obligations to provide relief for affected federal employees. The white paper takes an in-depth look at this legislation, as well as other similar efforts, including stays of foreclosure and state loan programs.
