Congresswoman Kim Spotlights AFSA During Hearing
Last week, AFSA sent a letter to the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions regarding this week’s hearing, “Fighting Fraud on the Front Lines: Challenges and Opportunities for Financial Institution.” AFSA’s letter highlights the problems consumers face from credit repair scams and encourages the members of the subcommittee to support H.R. 306, the “Ending Scam Credit Repair Act” (ESCRA). The bill, which AFSA helped draft, would protect consumers from illegitimate entities that charge expensive monthly fees, but fail to fulfill their promises to improve consumers’ credit histories.
During the hearing, Rep. Young Kim (R-CA), and the lead cosponsor of ESCRA, referenced AFSA and its support of the ESCRA. She also submitted the letter into hearing record.
