CFPB Nom Moves On

The American Financial Services Association (AFSA) thanks the Senate Banking Committee for advancing the nomination of Brian Johnson to serve as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and urges the full Senate to confirm him without delay.

Mr. Johnson knows the Bureau and the consumer credit marketplace. As Deputy Director of the CFPB, he oversaw the agency’s rulemaking and its supervision and enforcement programs. On the House Financial Services Committee, he worked on consumer credit, mortgage origination, credit reporting and data security. His years in private practice gave him a working understanding of what compliance demands of the companies the Bureau regulates.

Consumers and lenders alike benefit when the CFPB has a confirmed Director who sets clear, consistent rules. Regulatory certainty protects consumers and preserves their access to credit. Mr. Johnson understands that balance.

AFSA appreciates the Committee’s careful consideration of this nomination and looks forward to working with Mr. Johnson once the Senate confirms him.
