AFSA Education Foundation in Action

Over the weekend AFSA Education Foundation (AFSAEF) staff joined AFSA member company representatives in Columbus, Ohio for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Fall Conference.

The conference drew over 1,200 FCCLA middle and high school members, Family and Consumer Sciences teachers and advisers, and supporters from across the nation. AFSAEF exhibited and facilitated industry participation in a panel for students and teachers that highlighted such financial education resources as MoneySKILL, the AFSAEF personal-finance curriculum.  RanDee Platt, an FCCLA alum and Senior Vice President/Senior Director of Customer Experience for Santander provided a testimonial to attendees, while also serving on a human services career panel and breakout session.

A highlight of the weekend was a financial literacy general session that showcased the intersection of financial education, community service, and careers in financial services. The panel was moderated by Rhonda Ashburn, AFSA Education Foundation Executive Director, and featured Shunda Robinson, GM Financial Senior Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Sal Calvio, Security Finance Corporation of Spartanburg Vice-President of Talent Management and Executive Coach, and Ginger Herring, 1st Franklin Financial Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer. Panelists are pictured below with the FCCLA National Executive Council.

FCCLA, which has a membership of over 199,000 individuals, will soon be providing advisers with links to the panel video and a supporting personal finance lesson plan highlighting the MoneySKILL curriculum.
