E&C Subcommittee Passes SECURE Act
The Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee today unanimously passed H.R. 3962, the “Securing and Enabling Commerce Using Remote and Electronic Notarization Act of 2021, also known as the SECURE Act. Introduced by Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), and 32 original bipartisan cosponsors, the SECURE Act would expand the usage of Remote Online Notarizations (RONs) nationally.
RONs are type of electronic notarization that allows for the notarization process to completed with the notary and signer in different physical locations.
AFSA and other trades have advocated strongly for this and similar bills over the past several years and is pleased to see today’s result. We will continue to educate policymakers about the benefits this legislation to businesses and consumers.
