AFSA Attends NCSL
AFSA’s State Government Affairs (SGA) team recently attended the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Legislative Summit in Tampa, Florida on November 3 and 4. At the summit, state legislators and regulators as well as industry leaders held panels concerning economic growth, fintech regulation, the future of the workforce, and cybersecurity and ransomware. In addition, the NCSL’s Communications, Financial Services & Interstate Commerce Committee discussed and voted on a set of new policy directives. The committee unanimously adopted amendments to the current financial services policy that included a new section on fintech and various technical corrections to provisions regarding federal banking oversight, consumer protection, credit reporting, data breach, and information security. The committee also adopted a new telecommunications policy that focused on avoiding federal pre-emption and maintaining public safety and consumer protection.
