FCC Approves Call-Blocking Order

FCC Approves Call-Blocking Order

Last week, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved further rulemaking that would clarify that telephone companies are prohibited from imposing a charge on callers for removing erroneous call blocks and must implement a redress mechanism to receive safe harbor protections.

Specifically, this order would provide a safe harbor for telephone companies that use call authentication information to identify and block unwanted calls. Additionally, telephone companies are required to stop blocking calls when a caller makes a credible claim of erroneous call blocking. Telephone companies must provide a single point of contact for callers to report erroneously blocked calls.

AFSA has been advocating for these changes and is pleased with this development.
