AFSA Supports Introduction of Federal Privacy Legislation
AFSA joined more than fifty business associations and groups from a wide range of industries to support H.R. 8413, the SECURE Data Act, a comprehensive federal privacy bill that would establish a single national privacy standard. The House Energy and Commerce Committee created the Data Privacy working group to reset the discussion on comprehensive data privacy and took significant input from stake holders to create a consensus bill to protect the security of Americans’ personal data.
More than 20 states have enacted consumer privacy laws on a bipartisan basis, and this legislation would build on previous frameworks. A clear nationwide standard would strengthen trust and help consumers exercise control over their information while giving businesses the certainty needed to innovate, protect data, and drive growth.
AFSA will continue to work with other associations to voice our support for this legislation as it moves forward.
