AFSA Takes DC
This week more than 30 AFSA members flew in from across the country for meetings at the White House, Treasury Department, Federal Trade Commission and CFPB, on top of discussions with more than 20 members of Congress and their staff from both parties to discuss issues facing our industry. Republican and Democrat members of Congress heard directly about the harm credit repair scams are doing to consumers across the country and encouraged them to supporting H.R. 306, the “Ending Scam Credit Repair Act” (ESCRA).
AFSA members also had the opportunity to speak about the dangers of rate caps and how regulators can implement pro-consumer policies that protect borrowers and fuel a competitive marketplace.
Last week, AFSA sent a letter to the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions regarding its hearing, “Fighting Fraud on the Front Lines: Challenges and Opportunities for Financial Institution.” During the hearing, Rep. Young Kim (R-CA), referenced the ESCRA and submitted the letter into the hearing record.
AFSA appreciates Rep. Kim’s support of the bill and encouraged other members of Congress to support the bill during our fly-in meetings.
