AFSA Education Foundation in Action
Financial Literacy Month is a wrap and the AFSA Education Foundation was honored to attend the U.S. Treasury Department‘s financial literacy roundtable hosted by its Offices of Community and Economic Development and Consumer Policy. A highlight of meeting, entitled Empowering Americans in Underserved Communities through Financial Literacy, was hearing from partner organization representatives and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent sharing his personal financial literacy story.
The AFSA Education Foundation has had a great month, from attending the Treasury event and releasing new lesson plans to complement MoneySKILL®, to being featured on the Long Story $hort Money Management International podcast. AFSA Education Foundation Executive Director Rhonda Ashburn also joined the head of the TIAA Institute, Surya Kolluri, on the Retirement Daily Roundtable podcast hosted by retirement icon Robert Powell CFP®, which focused on ways to improve the financial literacy of Americans and highlighted MoneySKILL® and its effectiveness. The Foundation staff appreciates the support of AFSA members during Financial Literacy Month and throughout the year. Monthly activities for May are available under the Events section at www.moneyskill.org.
MoneySKILL®, the free personal finance curriculum made possible thanks to the generosity of AFSA members and others, is a great resource for learners in middle, high school, college, and beyond and has empowered more than 1.5 million students, teachers and other users since its inception in 2002.
