What has been the most important lesson?
My top life and career lessons are, Keep GOD first in everything. Positive perspective and respect are essential. Everything that is happening in your life seems so big, so important, so do or die, but in the grand picture, it’s just a single hiccup which often means next to nothing and usually works out for your good. Treat everyone with respect. Failures are lessons. And lastly, LOVE is more than a feeling, but a choice.
Was there a mentor who provided great insight in your early career?
I can’t really put a finger on just one person so I started creating my own personal Board of Directors. My personal and career “board” consists of individuals who had a strong personal and professional interest in seeing me succeed. Some of my directors includes women from my family, leaders at my church, small business owners in my neighborhood, and my very first boss, who informally mentored me without knowing it at the time. They all have contributed to my personal and professional brand, development, and success.
What do you wish you could have told the younger you about building a career?
You are enough! It’s absolutely fine not to know everything. Ask the dumb questions. Ask for help. Money isn’t everything but start saving now. Use your vacation time!
