Keynote Jake Harriman
AFSA is pleased to announce that Jake Harriman, retired U.S. Navy Force Recon Commander and founder of a global poverty eradication nonprofit, will serve as the 2023 Independents Conference and Expo Featured Speaker.
Born in rural West Virginia, Harriman attended the U.S. Naval Academy before serving almost a decade in the U.S. Marine Corps leading counter-terror operations in the Horn of Africa and Iraq. Harriman’s experiences led him to understand that the coordinates of someone’s birthplace should not dictate opportunities or economic standing throughout the course of their life. After attending the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Harriman founded Naru International, an organization that empowers people with lasting, meaningful choices to permanently climb out of extreme poverty in some of the toughest locales in the world.
His efforts resulted in being honored as a White House “Champion of Change” and by the Dalai Lama as an “Unsung Hero of Compassion.”
Join AFSA and Jake Harriman for an inspiring discussion on the courage to drive change and the role economic opportunity plays in the life of our country and the world, and how our industry and your teams can expand our influence for growth and good.
