AFSA Honors Two Consumer-Credit Leaders

AFSA Honors Two Consumer-Credit Leaders

AFSA created the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) in 1941 to recognize individuals who contribute to the growth of the financial services industry and our association.

Today, at the 2022 Annual Meeting at The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL, the 81st DSAs were awarded to two exceptional leaders in the consumer credit industry: Danny Cantrell, Founder, Solutions by Text and Hoan Vo, Director, Managing Counsel with Hyundai Capital America.

In 1994 Danny Cantrell founded Marketing Response Solutions in his Dallas apartment. He invented the first Loan by Phone system to take inbound automated calls for his customers 24/7, 365. In 2007 Danny’s brother, Mike Cantrell, developed a text message solution and the two formed Solutions By Text (SBT). The text message platform focused on compliance, with a consultative implementation strategy. Today, SBT has serviced more than 1500 global customers and established more than 70 core partners that have leveraged SBT integration to their compliance-first texting platforms.

“Danny has played an integral part in our industry’s success over the course of his career,” said Bill Himpler, President & CEO of AFSA. “His passion as both a business partner and advocate for our industry serves as a clear goal toward which we can all strive.”

Danny sits on the AFSA Independents Board and Business Partner Board; he has also served as AFSAPAC Auctioneer for the past three years. Danny’s favorite piece of sports memorabilia is personally signed by Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys and reads, “Danny, tough times never last but tough people do. Best wishes. – Tom Landry” Danny is supported by his loving wife, Alenda, and daughter Riley.

Hoan also oversees consumer litigation, regulatory disputes and attorney demands for HCA.

“Hoan’s depth of knowledge on a whole host of issues has enriched the work the state government affairs committee has done since he’s joined,” said Himpler. “His commitment has directly resulted in successes for our industry.”

Hoan started his legal career in San Francisco defending automotive finance companies in federal and state consumer class actions.  In addition to auto finance, Hoan has also worked in other financial services areas, including privacy, credit cards, mortgage lending and consumer deposit banking.
