AFSA Supports Remote Online Notarizations
Today the American Financial Services Association (AFSA) joined several other financial services trade associations and organizations in a letter urging Congressional leaders to include the bipartisan Securing and Enabling Commerce Using Remote and Electronic Notarization Act (SECURE Notarization Act) in a future emergency COVID-19 relief legislative vehicle.
Introduced by Representatives Madeleine Dean (D-PA) and Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and Senators Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Mark Warner (D-VA), the SECURE Notarization Act (H.R. 6364 and S. 3533) would expand the usage of Remote Online Notarizations (RONs) nationally and enable the notarization process to be completed with the notary and signer in different physical locations, using two-way audiovisual communication.
The SECURE Notarization Act will provide Americans the ability to execute crucial documents without having to gather and risk contracting or spreading COVID-19. Currently, the SECURE Notarization Act has 81 co-sponsors in the House and five in the Senate.
