Remembering Joe Shuler

The American Financial Services Association (AFSA) is saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Joseph Shuler on July 16.

Mr. Schuler began working at the Florida Department of Financial Services at the age of 18 as a mailroom clerk. Over the next three decades, Mr. Schuler worked his way up to retire as the Director of the Consumer Finance Department for the Department of Banking. After his retirement, he worked closely with many financial services companies, including Beneficial Finance, Household International and HSBC Bank. He also served as the President and Executive Director of the Florida Financial Services Association, using his decades of experience to protect access to credit and consumer choice in Florida.

Mr. Schuler was a longtime member of the Bristol Lion’s Club, an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was inducted in the Boy Scouts of America “Friend of Scouting” Hall of Fame, among many other accolades.

The thoughts and prayers of AFSA are with his wife Marlene, their children, grandchildren and beloved family and friends. The service and internment are private. For more information about services and life tributes, visit Mr. Schuler’s obituary.
