AFSA Submits Comment to FCC on Reassigned Numbers Database
This week, AFSA submitted a comment letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on the Technical Requirements Document (TRD) for the recently approved Reassigned Numbers Database (RND). The TRD outlines the technical responsibilities for the FCC-selected contractor who will administer the RND. AFSA appreciates the FCC’s efforts to address the issue of unwanted calls to consumers with numbers reassigned from a previous consumer.
AFSA strongly supports a single, comprehensive database that stores reassigned number information from voice service providers to allow callers to identify if a number has been reassigned. The TRD is thorough and its requirements for the RND prudently includes a safe harbor from Telephone Consumer Protection Act liability for callers who utilize the database to learn if a number has been reassigned. In its comment letter to the FCC, AFSA suggests that the comprehensive RND have additional system query capability and the ability to process a high volume of queries submitted by callers.
