What has been the most important lesson?
So many legal and business issues are complicated and nuance is important, so it is crucial to be clear and straightforward. I have learned how important it is to articulate risk, recommendations and feedback in a really digestible manner. It should be easy for people that I work with to receive and weigh my comments.
Was there a mentor who provided great insight in your early career?
Absolutely, there have been several! There is not a singular insight but I recall being empowered to ask questions. Don’t have a fear that everyone else already knows a detail or that something is just inherently “known.”
What do you wish the you of today could have told the younger you about building a career?
How important it is to share not only to substantive information but also to connect with people as humans. Being considered a trusted legal advisor is more than demonstrating technical competency. For people to trust your judgment and your word, they need to understand and respect your character.
