House Passes SECURE Act
The House yesterday passed H.R. 3962, the Securing and Enabling Commerce Using Remote and Electronic Notarization Act of 2021, also known as the SECURE Act, with a vote of 336-90. Introduced by Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), and 32 original bipartisan cosponsors, the SECURE Act expands the usage of Remote Online Notarizations (RONs) nationally. RONs are type of electronic notarization that allows for the notarization process to completed with the notary and signer in different physical locations.
AFSA and other trades have advocated strongly for this and similar bills over the past several years. We are very pleased with the passage of the bill and will keep members apprised of further developments.
