AFSA Shares Debt Collection Rules FAQs
AFSA’s State Government Affairs team recently submitted a set of suggested FAQs to the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) seeking clarity on the amended debt collection rules ahead of their effective date.
The FAQs address key member concerns, including the compliance timeline, how the rules apply to first-party creditors, the assigned representative and contact information requirements, the scope of channel opt-outs and cease-and-desist requests, upcoming model notices, language access obligations, and communications with family members of deceased consumers.
AFSA will continue to work with the Department and monitor the situation as it moves toward formalizing this guidance ahead of the rules’ effective date.
