Women’s History Month | Suzi Straffon
AFSA is celebrating Women’s History Month by featuring outstanding female leaders in the consumer credit industry.
What has been the most important lesson?
Keep going and continue to work hard. You never know what’s around the next corner! Some of my hardest days were followed by some of the best. If I had given up, I never would have known the career satisfaction and happiness that I do now with Allied Solutions.
Was there a mentor who provided great insight in your early career?
Rather than one person, it’s been a blend of behaviors and traits that I picked up along the way. Mentors can certainly be one person, but we have so much to learn from everyone we meet, no matter their station in life. I am constantly absorbing what others can teach me. I’ve tried to better myself using bits and pieces of the traits I find appealing in others: confidence, integrity, humility, gratitude.
What do you wish the you of today could have told the younger you about building a career?
I would tell myself to have confidence and know my worth. Get up, dress up, show up, and don’t give up! We all have something to offer. While I would encourage myself to keep growing, I’d also advise my younger self to embrace the qualities that make me ME, because the right company and situation will find value in that. We don’t have to change our core personalities to fit in!
