Remembering Mike Kane

AFSA is saddened by the death of Mike Kane on January 5th. Mike was a leader at Ally Financial as Senior Vice President of Consumer Credit Operations. He was also a positive force for the consumer credit industry at-large, serving as a key member of the Credit Risk Committee with AFSA.

Over the past several days, Mike’s Ally colleagues have celebrated his life and contributions. Doug Timmerman, President of Ally Financial Dealer Services, noted Mike’s service to the company, saying in part:

Mike’s passion and relentlessness was admirable. He never wavered in his commitment to Ally and was a true inspiration to all that knew him. He joined Ally in June 2010, as vice president, Consumer Operations. Over the decade-plus that followed, he built an industry-leading credit team that not only helped the company bounce back stronger following the 2008 recession, but culminated with a historic year in 2021. Mike was also one of the driving forces of our transition from a captive lender to the market competitive force that we are today. He was a visionary who created a roadmap for Ally that will continue to define us for the years to come.

Mike’s involvement with AFSA began in 2016, attending the Vehicle Finance Conference & Expo as a member of the Credit Risk Committee. In 2019 he was named Chair of the committee in a time marked by rapid change and digitization. Mike energetically led the Risk Committee, ensuring a full slate of relevant topics were explored for the Committee’s members. Mike’s years of experience and his focus on the work of the committee were integral to informing our industry through this period.

AFSA’s thoughts and prayers are with Mike’s family, friends and colleagues. A complete obituary, including memorial and donation information, is available here.
