As part of its 40th Anniversary celebration this year, Women in Housing Finance Inc. (WHF) is honoring its 40 Under 40 members in June, including ACA International’s Vice President and Senior Counsel of Federal Advocacy Leah Dempsey.
Dempsey joined the ACA International team in Washington, D.C. in May 2018. She brings deep knowledge of issues important to the accounts receivable management industry to the association and is instrumental in advocacy efforts with legislators and regulators in Washington.
Dempsey previously served as the senior director of advocacy and counsel for the Credit Union National Association, where she led their Consumer Protection Advocacy Team. In this role, she advocated on behalf of the association before Congress and federal agencies that included the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Communications Commission. She started her career at the National Republican Senatorial Committee and served as ACA International’s legislative counsel during the creation of the CFPB. In this position and in previous roles at other financial services trade associations, Dempsey successfully led advocacy efforts surrounding numerous CFPB rules and related congressional initiatives.
Dempsey earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Delaware and her law degree at the University of Baltimore. She is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia bars.
She will be honored at the WHF 40th Anniversary Celebration Reception June 11 at the National Museum of Women in Washington, D.C.
