AFSA is excited to welcome you to Washington, DC for the 2021 AFSA Annual Meeting, and in doing so ensuring that your experience is safe, enjoyable and successful. Our goal is to provide you over the three days of meetings with the in-person, high quality informational and networking sessions you have come to expect from our conferences.

To that end – and in light of concerns regarding the Delta Covid variant – AFSA is working with the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to set the best health and safety policies for your comfort and safety for this in-person meeting.  These policies are based on those of the Government of the District of Columbia, the CDC, as well as the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

While the policies may shift in the coming weeks, these are the steps we are taking to ensure your health and comfort at the Annual Meeting:

Prior to your arrival at the Annual Meeting:

  • All attendees are required to either be vaccinated or test negative within 72 hours of arrival. We ask that you sign an attestation form confirming either vaccination or testing, which is available here.
  • Fill out the form, save the document to your computer, and attach and upload via the email tool using the form on this page.
  • We will also send a reminder email with a link to the form a week before the Annual Meeting.

During the Annual Meeting:

  • The District of Columbia requires the use of face masks indoors for all attendees, speakers, and staff. We will be glad to provide you with a mask if you do not have one.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be located throughout the hotel.
  • A limited touch registration process will be in place.

The Mandarin Oriental Washington, D.C. maintains the Lloyd’s Register “Safe Hotel” certification, which outlines 160 safety standards and strict cleanliness protocols. Additionally, the Hotel has developed 50+ property-specific COVID-19 procedures. They include:

  • Incorporating sanitization with hospital grade cleanser, following deep clean of all public space, guestrooms, as well as in back of house operational areas
  • Increased frequency of disinfecting those high-touch surfaces with antibacterial cleansers including front desk, lounge tables and chairs, elevator buttons, public restroom door handles, etc.
  • Hand sanitizer stations throughout public spaces and in the elevator bank of every guestroom floor.
  • Control of foot traffic through doorways including hotel lobby, breakfast room, and on banquet floor.
  • Establish maximum occupancy levels and social distancing cues in elevators.
  • New signage with health & safety reminders throughout the hotel.
